Eggs!

Overwhelming Success!

University of Rwanda visits BAF.

In May 2023 a group of Nursing students from the University of Rwanda Kigali campus in partnership with a Japan based organization NPO thinking about education in Rwanda, came to Bright Africa Foundation to provide eggs to the children in our community. They wanted nearly 100 children and our team worked with the village leaders to make sure that we gathered the kids.

What was so crazy about that, is the number of children that appeared at the event. When we were counting the children, we noticed that more than 300 children had come to attend this event.

Expecting 100 but 300 show up!

A Creative Solution

We had to find a solution to feed the extra 200 children. Thankfully, the number of eggs the team had brought to support was enough to provide 1 egg per child.  We were also able to add more money to buy more porridge and sugar for all the children. It was quite a very wonderful day full of surprises and creativity which finally came to meet all the solutions.

We managed to get all the cups to serve all the 300 children and also provided extra eggs to some parents.

We are hoping that the next time we get a chance to host this event again we will also have the students check the rate of the malnourished kids in the community.

We are working towards doubling the impact.

A Double Positive Impact

As a positive result of this, we have been providing eggs to our children as often as we can and we have noticed a very positive change in the lives of the children we support.

Our immediate plan is to make sure that each family we support can have a chicken at home and have them lay eggs which BAF will buy from them and serve it back to the kids. In this way the impact will be doubled; the kids will be able to have so much protein from the eggs and the parents will benefit financially as we will pay for the eggs.  -Eric IRADUKUNDA
